Conservatives have always protected freedom. That dedication is needed now, more than ever. Several recent events illustrate the danger our First Amendment currently faces.
· Throughout the world, totalitarian governments have engaged in censorship of the internet. Now, however, the United Nations is pursuing treaties that would give it the power to "regulate" this vital tool of the free press. The Obama Administration is said to be quietly favoring the concept.
· In Los Angeles, the City Council is considering a bill that would give it the power to outlaw what they consider inappropriate "hate speech." No one favors hate speech, but giving any governmental body the power to censor opens the door to censor anything they don't like.
· Media Matters and left wing political groups across the nation are on a well-financed Jihad against Rush Limbaugh. Getting Rush and other conservative journalists off the air has been a long standing goal of the left for years.
As Conservatives, we should be dedicated to fighting the left's long standing goal of pushing us out of the media.
