The mainstream media didn't make much of it, but Leon Panetta's disturbing comments last week provided clear evidence of President Obama's intention to let U.S. sovereignty play second fiddle to the United Nations and other international laws or organizations.
Testifying before Congress, the Defense Secretary stated several times that America required "permission" from worldwide bodies, as a matter of law, before using force. Eventually, and only after significant prodding, Senator Jeff Sessions coaxed Secretary Panetta into stating that the U.S. has the right to defend itself unilaterally if necessary. The fact that the Senator had to rhetorically force Panetta to make this statement is frightening; the fact that Panetta restricted even that admission to, essentially, attacks on the U.S. itself is stunning.
Once again, Obama has taken a position wholly divorced from Constitutional reality or the requirements of U.S. law.
This is not the first time this increasingly bizarre Administration has made it clear that it international practices supersedes American law, or even the Constitution. The evidence continues to mount that this is the most lawless White House in U.S. history.
